In New York, 37% of the population is foreign-born.

Decline in Legal Immigration

Legal immigration dropped by 12.7% from 1,183,505 in 2016 to 707,362 in 2020.

Insights: H-1B visa issuances fell 16.4% from 201,013 in 2016 to 168,893 in 2020.


Rise in Unauthorized Immigration

Unauthorized immigrants decreased from 11.1 million in 2014 to 10.3 million in 2020 (-7.2%), but rose to 11.5 million by 2024 (+11.7%).

Hate crimes against immigrants increased by 14% from 2016 to 2020, rising from 7,175 to 8,210 incidents.

Immigrants Small Business Ownership

Immigrants own 3.2 million small businesses in the U.S., representing 21.7% of all small businesses.

With small businesses owned by Immigrants alone adding over $900 billion into the U.S. Economy, there are posistive signs of contirubution. And with Immigrants making up 17.1% of the U.S. labor force and represent 43% of growth in STEM fields, we believe that we should be open to understanding the value of Immigrants in the country and continue to spread the message of bringing in Immigrants that bring value to America and ensuring we get rid of Immigrants that do the opposite.
